[Preparation Method] Take porcine bile, filter, dry, and pulverize to obtain the product.
[Description] This product is a yellow to grayish-yellow powder. It has a slightly fishy odor, a bitter taste, and is hygroscopic (readily absorbs moisture).
[Identification] Perform the test using Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) as described in Appendix VI B of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2015 Edition, Part I; the resulting chromatogram should correspond to that of the Porcine Deoxycholic Acid Reference Standard.
[Inspection] Bovine and Ovine Bile: In the chromatogram of the test sample, no spots corresponding to those of the Bovine or Ovine Bile Reference Materials shall appear.
[Reducing Sugars] Shall comply with the prescribed limits.
[Foreign Organic Matter] Shall comply with the prescribed limits.
[Moisture Content] Shall not exceed 10.0%.
[Assay (Content Determination)] Calculated on the basis of the dried product, this product shall contain no less than 16.0% of Porcine Deoxycholic Acid (C₂₄H₄₀O₄).
[Properties, Taste, and Meridian Tropism] Bitter; Cold in nature. It enters the Liver, Gallbladder, Lung, and Large Intestine meridians.
[Functions and Indications] Clears heat, moistens dryness, detoxifies, and relieves cough and asthma. It is indicated for febrile diseases accompanied by dryness and thirst, red eyes, throat obstruction (sore throat), jaundice, whooping cough, asthma, diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, and carbuncles or toxic swellings.
[Usage and Dosage] 0.3–0.6 g; to be taken orally (mixed with water) or incorporated into pills or powders. For external use, an appropriate amount may be ground into a fine powder and applied directly, or mixed with water to form a paste for topical application.
